Riding a QUAD in Germany
Before bringing a quad/ATV to Germany or renting one locally, make sure you are aware of the rules.
Riders in Germany must be in possession of a class B (regular POV) drivers license and wear a helmet.
Quads registered in Germany – and that includes USAREUR registered vehicles – may be driven on all public roads. Riding on the autobahn is only permissible if the maximum allowed speed for your vehicle is over 60 kilometers per hour. Roads and trails designated for agricultural or forestry vehicles only are off limits for your quad unless you have prior permission from your local forestry office. Off-roading is prohibited in Germany. As a general rule, you are only allowed to ride a quad where it is also legal to drive a car.
There are very few off-road quad areas in Germany, none of them in the local KMC area. The closest quad area is in Saverne, France, 85 kilometers from Kaiserslautern.
